VIKING FROSH ROLLS OVER WOLVES

(9/27/07 Chico, CA) The Pleasant Valley freshman football team worked its way to a 32-8 win over Shasta Thursday at Asgard Yard.
Tyler Taylor's 14-yard gain with about six minutes remaining in the first quarter gave the Vikings a first down at the Wolves' 23-yard line. Taylor later added five more yards to set up another first down at the 12-yard line. The drive ended with 4:19 to go in the first when Austin Razzano ran 10 yards to score a touchdown. Junior Ortiz's extra point attempt was blocked, so PV just opened with a 6-0 lead.
In the late stages of the first quarter, Taylor gained eight yards on third down and 4 to give the Vikings a first down at the Shasta 29-yard line. On the next play, Tyler Reaman connected with Geoff Swaim on a 12-yard pass to bring Pleasant Valley within striking distance of another score. The drive continued into the second quarter with a completion to Gary Hemmingsen on fourth and 2 setting up a first and goal at the 5-yard line. The drive ended two plays later when Taylor found his way into the end zone. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, so the Vikings maintained a 12-0 advantage.
Bryson Schreder gave the Wolves their first points of the evening by returning the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. Brock Callaway added the two-point conversion to bring Shasta within four points at 12-8. The Wolves reclaimed possession of the ball with 6:51 remaining in the second on an interception by Vincent Sanchez that allowed them to start their next drive at the PV 48-yard line. The drive ended on third and 6 when Nathan Stephens was stopped for no gain, leading to a punt on the next play.
Rozzano's 13-yard gain with over two minutes left in the first half gave the Vikings a first down at the Shasta 43-yard line. Two plays later, Taylor gained 14 yards to set up a first and goal inside the 10-yard line. A touchdown pass to Rozzano completed the drive with 36 seconds to go in the half. Ortiz added the extra point as Pleasant Valley went ahead 19-8.
On the opening drive of the second half, a 31-yard completion to Chase Drews gave the Vikings a first down at the Wolves' 18-yard line. The drive ended three plays later on a seven-yard touchdown run by Taylor. The extra point attempt sailed to the right, so PV's lead stood at 25-8.
Shasta started a drive with about two minutes left in the third quarter at the Vikings' 40-yard line after Pleasant Valley's Jason Freitas was unable to punt the ball. They ended up losing four yards on third down and 4 on a fumble recovery by Jimmy Montana. On the next play, an incomplete pass intended for Brian Stupek allowed the Vikings to take over on downs.
Early in the fourth quarter, Jeremy Andreasen's seven-yard run gave PV a first down at the Wolves' 48-yard line. Later in the drive, a five-yard gain by Rozzano moved the Vikings to the 26-yard line. On the next play, Hemmingsen ran the distance for the touchdown. Ortiz made the extra point to give Pleasant Valley a 32-8 lead.
Thomas Beeman's four yard gain with over four minutes left in the game brought Shasta to the Vikings' 35-yard line. A pitchback to Thomas Cargile on second down and 10 pushed the Wolves back four yards. The drive ended on fourth and 14 when Beeman was stopped for no gain.
