(9/28/07 Chico, CA) Despite a delay of more than a half hour, the Pleasant Valley junior varsity football still came away with a 27-21 decision over Shasta Friday at Asgard Yard.

On the game's opening drive, an 11-yard completion to Jerrick Wallace along with a 15-yard facemask penalty against the Wolves moved the Vikings up to the Shasta 28-yard line. On the next play, Treavor Rosecrans added 12 more yards for a first down at the 16-yard line. The drive ended with 7:07 remaining in the first quarter when Wes Christensen connected with Josephus Allmond on a seven-yard touchdown pass. Joey Ruth kicked the extra point to put PV up 7-0.

The Wolves started their first drive on their 47-yard line after Camren Harris' 27-yard kickoff return. Matt Henry sacked quarterback Anthony Moore on second and 10 for a seven-yard loss. However, on the next play, Shasta got a first down on a 25-yard completion to Harris. The drive continued into the second quarter with the Wolves facing a fourth and goal at the Vikings' 20-yard line. It ended with Hayden Miller tossing a pass to David Ashby for a touchdown. The extra point was added to tie the contest at 7-7.

Later in the second, Ruth's six-yard gain gave Pleasant Valley a first down on their 48-yard line. Two plays later, they moved into Shasta territory when Ruth gained 10 more yards. The drive ended on fourth and 6 when Ruth only gained two yards to reach the 22-yard line as the Wolves took over on downs.

Shortly after the first half ended, it began to rain heavily, drenching everyone and everything in sight. The second half was due to start shortly after 6:30 p.m., but Pleasant Valley athletic director Randy Gilzean announced that the game would be delayed until the thunder and lightning passed. After about 20 minutes, the storm began to subside and both teams were allowed to return to the field, needing time to warm up before resuming play.

On the first play from scrimmage of the second half, Harris scampered 55 yards for a go-ahead touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good, so Shasta had to settle for a 13-7 lead. A 32-yard gain by Christensen gave the Vikings a first down at the Wolves' 40-yard line. The drive ended with 6:07 remaining in the third quarter when Ryan Powers ran three yards for a touchdown. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, so the score was tied at 13-13.

Shasta took the lead back 46 seconds into the fourth quarter on Harris' 65-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was added to give the Wolves a 21-13 lead. Pleasant Valley opened its next drive with Rosecrans gaining 18 yards for a first down at the Shasta 34-yard line. Powers capped off the drive by going the distance for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was good to tie the game again at 21-21.

Powers' 27-yard gain midway through the fourth gave the Vikings a first down at the Wolves' 30-yard line. A false start on third down and 11 pushed the PV offense back five yards. Sean Ryan then threw an interception caught by Shasta's Matthew Wayda. The Vikings got the ball back on Jarryd Rollag's interception with 1:33 left in the game. Finally, with eight seconds to go, Powers ran one yard for the game winning touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good.
