(3/22/07 Chico, CA) The Pleasant Valley varsity softball team relied on the pitching of Kendra Cheung as she allowed only two hits in a 3-0 win over Enterprise Thursday at Hooker Oak Field.

The Vikings' first score came in the bottom of the first inning when Brittney Baker hit a single to left field that drove in Cheung. They were unable to score the rest of the inning as Andrea Woodward hit a flyout that left Baker and Katie Buzarellos stranded.

The Hornets' first hit came in the top of the second inning when Cassie Wolfe hit a single to center field. She was tagged out at third base when Shiree Ferguson hit into a double play. Cheung then retired the next five Enterprise batters before giving up a triple by Kayla Smith, who was tagged out at home plate trying to extend her hit into an inside the park home run.

Pleasant Valley took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Cheung reached first base on an error that allowed Woodward to score. The Vikings tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Alexa Richard hit a double that drove in Buzarellos. Cheung, meanwhile, dominated the Hornets by retiring her next 10 batters after giving up the hit to Smith.

Buzarellos went 2-for-2 for Pleasant Valley with a pair of singles, reached base on an error, and scored once. Richard was 2-for-3 with a single, a double, and an RBI. Wolfe went 1-for-2 for Enterprise with a single, while Smith was 1-for-3 with a triple. Cheung pitched the entire game for the Vikings, striking out four and did not give up a walk. Maria Muncy went the distance for the Hornets, allowing seven hits, striking out one, and walking three.
