FOURTH QUARTER HEROICS GIVE BOBCAT JV GIRLS WIN

(2/14/08 Paradise, CA) The Paradise girls' junior varsity basketball team used a 15-2 fourth quarter to gain a 51-41 win over Pleasant Valley Thursday at the Bobcats' home gym.
Kelsey Miller gave the Vikings their first points of the game when she made a bucket with 7:08 remaining in the first quarter. A free throw by Jamie Earl with 6:23 to go in the first cut the Bobcats' deficit to 6-1. Gina Spini nailed a three-pointer with 3:15 left in the period as PV took an 11-5 lead. Erica Edgmon hit a shot with 2:14 to go as Paradise pulled within two points at 11-9.
Taylor Parsley made one of two free throws 41 seconds into the second quarter to give the Vikings a 20-12 lead. The Bobcats would tie the contest at 20-20 when Kaitlyn Porter made a hoop with 4:54 remaining in the first half. Stevie Poliquin completed Paradise's 12-0 run when she connected on a basket with 3:27 to go in the half. A pair of free throws by Juliana Hoffman 16 seconds later ended Pleasant Valley's scoring drought.
The Vikings took over the lead at 32-31 when Miller made a pair of free throws with 5:07 remaining in the third quarter. The Bobcats stayed close on a shot by Haley Kirkman with 4:29 to go in the third as PV still led 34-33. Kiley Mansfield made a bucket with 2:36 left in the period to give the Vikings a 35-34 lead. Her basket with 25 seconds to go pushed Pleasant Valley up 39-34.
Earl made a shot with 6:38 remaining in the fourth quarter to keep Paradise within a point at 39-38. The Vikings' last points of the game came 27 seconds later when Mansfield made a bucket. The Bobcats were down 41-40 when Sandra Porter made a shot with 3:44 to go in the game. A pair of free throws by Cynthia Gutierrez with 56 seconds left pushed Paradise's advantage to 46-41.
Caressa Williams scored 13 points to lead the Bobcats. She also grabbed seven rebounds. Kaitlyn Porter scored seven points and Edgmon added six points and nine rebounds. The Vikings got 15 points and three rebounds from Miller. Mansfield added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
