PERLINGER POWERS PANTHER JV BOYS TO WIN

(1/30/08 Chico, CA) A 26-point and 18-rebound effort from Andrew Perlinger helped the Chico boys' junior varsity basketball team take a 61-37 win over Enterprise Wednesday at "The Panther Pit."
A free throw by Marc Carter with 6:37 remaining in the first quarter gave the Panthers their first point of the game. Cody Fisher made the Hornets' first points on a basket with 5:33 to go in the period. Kenneth Happerset hit a shot with 3:58 left in the first as Enterprise was down by a point at 5-4. Kenneth McMillan's three-pointer with 49 seconds to go in the quarter cut Chico's deficit to 11-10.
Perlinger's hoop with 6:54 remaining in the second quarter put the Panthers back up 12-11. A three-pointer from Travis May with 4:44 left in the first half allowed the Hornets to tie the contest at 14-14. Enterprise tied the game at 18-18 when Colton Lloyd made a bucket with 3:21 left in the half. McMillan put Chico back in the lead at 21-18 when he made a three with 2:53 to go in the half.
Perlinger hit a bucket 17 seconds into the third quarter to give the Panthers a 30-23 lead. He added another shot with 3:52 to go in the third as Chico raised its lead to 15 points. A three from Fisher with 1:33 left accounted for the Hornets' first points of the third period. Perlinger's basket with 44 seconds remaining in the quarter pushed Chico up 42-28.
Bryan Coleman's three-pointer 35 seconds into the fourth quarter brought Enterprise within nine points at 42-33. Perlinger made a hoop with 6:28 to go in the game to give the Panthers a 44-35 lead. Chris Barr's basket with 2:49 left in the contest allowed Chico to take a 54-37 lead. A three-pointer by Seth Cochran with 43 seconds remaining moved the Panthers ahead 59-37.
In addition to Perlinger's efforts, the Panthers also received 14 points from McMillan, while Barr added five points and six rebounds. Lloyd scored 11 points and grabbed three rebounds for the Hornets, while Fisher scored nine points.
