VIKING JV BOYS TAKE OUT PANTHERS

(1/18/08 Chico, CA) The Pleasant Valley boys' junior varsity basketball team put Chico away by taking a 62-44 win Friday at Acker Gym.
 
Kenneth McMillan gave the Panthers their first points of the game by making a three-pointer 32 seconds in. Riley Bentley's shot with 6:02 remaining in the first quarter gave the Vikings their first score. A basket by Chris Barr with 3:03 to go in the first allowed Chico to tie the game at 7-7. Jaycob Velasco nailed a hoop with 45 seconds left in the period to put PV ahead 11-9.
 
McMillan tied the contest for the Panthers at 11-11 when a made a shot 33 seconds into the second quarter. A basket and a free throw by Velasco with 7:05 to go in the period allowed the Vikings to go back up 14-11. A free throw by McMillan with 3:24 remaining in the first half cut Chico's deficit to 21-14. However, Chase Drews hit a three-pointer 11 seconds later for Pleasant Valley's first double digit lead of the evening.
 
Bentley put the Vikings ahead 32-16 when he made a shot 12 seconds into the third quarter. The Panthers got their first score of the second half 15 seconds later when Andrew Perlinger made a basket. McMillan hit a three-pointer with 3:11 to go in the third to cut Chico's deficit to 43-25. Drews' bucket with 1:59 remaining in the period gave PV a 47-25 lead.
 
Perlinger's basket and free throw 12 seconds into the fourth quarter allowed the Panthers to reach the 30-point mark. The Vikings took a 51-30 lead 18 seconds later when Velasco connected on a hoop. Perlinger added another hoop with 3:50 remaining in the game to cut Chico's deficit to 55-39. Bentley's bucket with 2:52 left put Pleasant Valley ahead 59-39.
 
Velasco led the Vikings with 21 points and collected five rebounds. Bentley added 11 points and five rebounds, while Drews scored 10 points. The Panthers got 13 points and four rebounds from Perlinger, while McMillan scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
