Elk Creek hosts basketball tournament

Elk Creek – The 5th Annual Elk Creek Small School Holiday Classic was a hit this past weekend.  Four schools particpated in the fun, Downieville, Elk Creek, Herlong, and Princeton.

Herlong’s Lady Vikings took the championship with a win against Elk Creek Saturday. It was a close game with a lot of tough defense. The final score was 28 –23. #24 Clair Crites led the Elks with 9 points, and pulled down 10 rebounds.  #10 Jamie Wycoff led the team with 11 rebounds and pitched in 6 points for the Lady Elks, who placed second in this weekend’s bout. 

Herlong, who won the small school Holiday Classic, now has a record of 4-5. The All Tourney team included #10 Wycoff  and #24 Crites from Elk Creek, #23 Berry, and #32 Owen from Herlong. #42 Davi Schmidt and #5 Kodi Gimblin from Princeton. #40 Tara Dines, and #44 Morgan Hill from Downieville.

The MVP for the ladies was #14 Reanna Retterath for Herlong.

The Battle for third place was taken on by Princeton’s Lady Eagles and the Lady Warriors of Downieville. Though the Eagles came up short, final score 34-45, it was not without a fight. #33 Anna Martin yanked out of the air 11 rebounds and her fellow forward #12 Jenni Perez took control of 10 rebounds.

The boys’ outcome for the Small School Holiday Classic is as follows, 1st place went to Princeton, and second place to Downieville. All Tourney went to: Cody Gregory and Trevor Butler of Elk Creek, Mason Moore and Fabien Correra of Princeton, Steve Loving, Dillon Herrmann, and Niven Wilson of Downievile, and Colter Angstadt and Mike Evans of Herlong. The MVP went to Logan Valencia of Princeton.
