(9/5/07 Chico, CA) The Chico junior varsity football team took a 34-0 win over Red Bluff Friday at University Stadium.

On the game's opening drive, Taylor Wakefield gained 28 yards to give the Panthers a first down at the Spartans' 29-yard line. They would lose three yards on the next two plays, then on third and 13, Kyle Quackenbush gained eight yards. Red Bluff took over on downs after Quackenbush threw an incomplete pass intended for Cole Yakemchuk.

The Spartans earned a first down on a nine-yard completion to Jason Vossoughi as they reached their 39-yard line. On third and 11, Ronnie Hampton gained only two yards. Then after a false start penalty against Chico, Red Bluff faced fourth and 4. However, Trevor Gipson punted the ball to Josh Cherrington, setting up the Panthers' next drive at their 29-yard line.

Cherrington's 38-yard completion in the first minute of the second quarter gave Chico a first down at the Spartans' 25-yard line. A 15-yard roughing the passer penalty against Red Bluff on second down moved the Panthers' 14-yard line. The next play saw Ian Boyer go the distance for a touchdown. Shaun Boyer kicked the extra point to put Chico ahead 7-0.

Ian Boyer ran 48 yards on the Panthers' next possession midway through the second quarter to reach the Red Bluff 17-yard line. On the next play, Quackenbush ran the rest of the way for a touchdown. Shaun Boyer made the extra point as Chico went up 14-0.

Before the first half ended, Hampton's six-yard gain set up a first down for the Spartans at the Panthers' 44-yard line. On the next play, DeAndre Braziel caught a 24-yard pass to bring Red Bluff within striking range of a possible score. But the drive ended when Chico defender Jonathan Cazares recovered a fumble, allowing the Panthers to regain possession.

An interception by Ian Boyer a minute into the third quarter gave Chico a first and 10 at the Spartans' 11-yard line. Two plays later, Quackenbush ran five yards for a touchdown. Shaun Boyer added the extra point to move the Panthers ahead 21-0.

A 10-yard completion to Trevor Miller gave Red Bluff a first down at midfield. They would get no closer than the Chico 35-yard line as Andrew Perlinger picked off Gerlinger's pass and returned the ball to the Spartans' 37-yard line. Shaun Boyer's nine-yard gain with 4 1/2 minutes remaining in the third quarter set up a first and 10 at the 21-yard line. The drive ended with 2:13 left in the third on Quackenbush's 15-yard touchdown pass on fourth down. The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, so the Panthers' lead stood at 27-0.

Ian Boyer's 51-yard touchdown run came with 5:19 remaining in the game. The extra point was good as Chico went up 34-0. Red Bluff tried one more attempt at scoring as Hampton gained 16 yards for a first down at the Panthers' 35-yard line. However, they were unable to get past the 10-yard line as Gipson was sacked by C.J. Berry for a seven-yard loss on fourth down as time wound down.
