(10/26/07 Chico, CA) The Foothill junior varsity football team came away with a 17-0 win over Pleasant Valley Friday at Asgard Yard.
The Cougars scored first with 8:05 remaining in the first quarter when Angel Pacillas ran 80 yards for a touchdown. Codey Ellenwood made the extra point to give Foothill an early 7-0 lead. On the Cougars' next possession, Ellenwood caught an 18-yard pass for a first down at the Vikings' 27-yard line. The drive ended on Michael Faris' five-yard touchdown run with 4:30 to go in the first. Ellenwood's extra point put Foothill up 14-0.
The first quarter came to an end when Ellenwood gained 19 yards for a first down at the PV 38-yard line. The second quarter didn't start off well for the Cougars as they were charged with a pair of five-yard penalties. Then Faris threw an incomplete pass intended for Dillon Provence. On the next play, the Vikings took over possession on a fumble recovery.
Ryan Powers' four-yard gain allowed Pleasant Valley to earn a first down at the Foothill 44-yard line. They faced a third and 6 situation, but didn't move further as Wes Christensen threw an incomplete pass intended for Jerrick Wallace. On the next play, an incomplete pass intended for Josephus Allmond gave the Cougars possession on downs.
The next time the Vikings had the ball, Christensen's 13-yard gain gave them a first down on their 48-yard line. Despite getting hit with a 10-yard penalty on the previous play, Treavor Rosecrans took the ball 37 yards for a first down at the Foothill 23-yard line. A 13-yard completion to Allmond kept the drive moving for PV, but the first half ended with the Vikings failing to score as Christensen was stopped four yards short of the goal line.
Mitchell McCarthy gained 13 yards to give the Cougars a first down at the Pleasant Valley 30-yard line. Two plays later, Casey Colwell gained eight yards to reach the 15-yard line. The drive ended with Colwell fumbling the ball on third down and Viking defender Matt Henry recovering it.
In the late stages of the third quarter, a 10-yard gain by Pacillas narrowly gave Foothill a first down at the PV 20-yard line. The drive concluded with 8:19 left in the game when Ellenwood kicked a 26-yard field goal to extend the Cougars' lead to 17-0. A 28-yard run by Rosecrans with nearly 5 1/2 minutes to go in the contest set up a first and 10 for the Vikings at the Foothill 25-yard line. Pleasant Valley only gained two more yards on the next three plays, and then on fourth down, an incomplete pass gave the Cougars the ball back.
