SEVEN RUN INNING PROPELS PANTHERS TO WIN

(4/1/08 Chico, CA) The Chico varsity softball used a seven-run second inning to take an 11-4 verdict over Enterprise in an Eastern Athletic League game played Tuesday at Haines Field.
 
The Hornets had the first scoring chance of the game wiped out in the top of the first inning as Kataya Bade's strikeout left Cassie Wolfe stranded at second base. The Panthers would get their first run in the bottom of the first when a single by Kristen Meyer allowed Carly Foerster to come home. Another run was added when a single by Brianna Huber drove in courtesy runner Shelby Cornell.
 
Enterprise finally scored in the top of the second inning when Amanda Waterman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as Chelsea Voorhees came home. They would tie the contest at 2-2 when a groundout by Sophie Garcia allowed Shiree Ferguson to score. Chico regained the lead in the bottom of the second when Foerster reached base on an error as Ashley Pollak came home.
 
A triple by Keri Piluso later in the second allowed Jolene Koons and Foerster to score. Piluso would come home on a wild pitch during Meyer's at bat. Next to score were Cornell, Reba Carriere, and Huber, who were driven in on Riley Marshall's double. The Panthers went ahead 10-2 in the bottom of the third inning when a groundout by Foerster brought Koons home.
 
The Hornets had a scoring opportunity in the top of the fourth inning, but were unsuccessful as a groundout by Maria Muncy left Kaileigh Bible and Garcia stranded. Chico added another run in the bottom of the fourth when Lauren Kaminski reached base on an error, which brought Carriere home. Enterprise cut its deficit to seven runs in the top of the fifth inning when Wolfe and Keely Smith scored as Ferguson reached base on an error.
 
Koons went 2-for-4 for Chico with a single, a triple, and scored twice. Foerster was 2-for-3 with a single, a double, and scored twice. Piluso went 2-for-4 with a single, a triple, two RBIs, and scored once. Garcia went 2-for-3 for Enterprise with a single, a double, and an RBI, while Wolfe was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and scored once.
